Cleopatra is produced by International Game Technology (or IGT), one of the leading casino game developers in the US. It was released as an online slot game in 2012, but before that Cleopatra was also available as a slot machine at land-based casinos.

Cleopatra has a classic game layout for online slots, with a 5×3 grid and 20 paylines that pay out from left to right. It also has a medium volatility and a maximum jackpot of 10,000x your wager. Special game symbols tie into the Egyptian theme, with icons like the Eye of Horus and scarab beetles having higher win values, alongside playing cards.

Cleopatra offers a fun playing experience for both beginners and more experienced players. It has a bold design and a straightforward game mechanic with a few extra features to keep things interesting.

The game is laid out across 5 reels, 3 rows, and has a total of 20 paylines. I like that the winning paylines are clearly highlighted so you can see each of your wins.

Below the slot reels you’ll find the control panel that displays important player information. This is where you can adjust your bet amount and active paylines, spin the reel, and see your total wins and balance. The upper-right corner of the screen has additional information including paytables, game rules, and the audio control. I recommend checking out the paytable to see the value of the game symbols, which range from regular letters and numbers to special Egyptian images.

Cleopatra’s visual design is one of its strongest features. Everything ties into the ancient Egypt theme, from the hieroglyphics along the top of the game to the crumbling stone structures in the background. Game symbols further the theme with the Sphinx, scarab beetles, the Eye of Horus, and Cleopatra herself. I like how dynamic the design feels in this game – the bright colors really stand out and for an older game the design doesn’t feel dated at all.

The background sound is a combination of mystical Egyptian music and a modern pop beat. I found the music enjoyable enough, but less enjoyable was the woman’s voice making announcements. She sounds like an early Siri prototype, and not like the regal voice I would expect from an Egyptian queen. In my opinion, it’s the most dated feature in Cleopatra.

Released back in 2012, Cleopatra has undoubtedly inspired some of the many other Egypt-themed slot games now available, like Cleopatra’s Gold by Real Time Gaming and Legacy of Dead by Play’n Go. IGT has also launched several spin-off versions of Cleopatra, including Cleopatra II, Cleopatra Megajackpots, and Cleopatra Plus. However, I still recommend the original Cleopatra by IGT for the classic ancient Egyptian slot game experience.

Cleopatra has an RTP of 95.02%, with a medium volatility and a top payout of 10,000x your bet. While the RTP is a bit lower than average, the high potential jackpot still makes Cleopatra a good choice for slots players. Let’s look at these figures a bit more deeply.

Cleopatra’s bonus features include Wild Symbols, Scatter Symbols, Multipliers and a Bonus Round with free spins. These are typical bonus features for a game as classic as Cleopatra, and keep the gameplay exciting for players.

Cleopatra Wild Symbol

The Wild Symbol in this game is the Egyptian queen herself. The Cleopatra symbol can substitute for any other symbol, with the exception of the Sphinx scatter symbol. Your payouts increase with the number of Wilds that you land. Two Cleopatras on a payline will double your winnings, three will win 200x your bet, four will win 2,000x, and five will win you the top payout of 10,000x.

Cleopatra Scatter Symbol

The Scatter Symbol features an image of the ancient Sphinx. These symbols will increase your wins if you land two or more anywhere on the board, up to 100x for five Sphinxes. The Scatter Symbol is also what activates the Cleopatra Bonus Round.

Cleopatra Bonus Round

Cleopatra’s Bonus Round is triggered when you land three or more of the Sphinx scatter symbols. You’ll get 15 free spins in the Bonus Round, and all wins are tripled during this round.

During this round, anytime you land three or more scatter symbols you’ll receive 15 extra free spins. This means you can potentially get up to 180 free spins, and with the tripled value you could collect some nice wins during the Bonus Round.

During my tests, I managed to trigger the bonus round a handful of times for every 30 minute session, on average. I found it a decent return for my time investment. In contrasts, I find it can get frustrating playing very high volatility games like the Dead or Alive series, waiting for a long time to trigger the bonus game.

Cleopatra Multipliers

As I’ve already mentioned, Cleopatra’s Wild symbol and Bonus Round both feature a multiplier that increases your winnings.

All of the wins that you land during the Bonus Round will come with a 3x multiplier. During regular play, the Cleopatra Wild symbol multiplies your wins based on the number of Wilds you land – these can range from 2x all the way up to the top jackpot of 10,000x.

These multipliers are definitely the key to hitting the biggest wins. All of my big scores came from the bonus round.
