Golden Wolves offers a very straightforward playing experience. While the wolf theme adds to the atmosphere, Konami keeps the game’s features simple so players can concentrate on landing those wins.

The game takes place across 5 reels and 3 rows, a classic layout shape for slot games. It comes with 30 paylines that pay out from left to right, and includes a few extra features like stacked symbols to increase your chances of winning.

The design of the game is bright and dynamic. Golden Wolves features forest creatures as high-value symbols, and I like that the background is blue to remind you of a northern night sky. Creature symbols include a ram, buffalo, eagle, and the Golden Wolf, in addition to the standard 9, 10, J, Q, K and A for the low-value symbols.

The sound in Golden Wolves doesn’t quite add to the theme as much as I’d like. It makes the standard bleeps and whirs of a slot game, but I would have liked to hear more nature effects like howling wolves or a blowing wind. (There is a bit of this in the free spins round, but not during regular play.)

I also wasn’t a huge fan of the control panel in Golden Wolves, which runs along the bottom of the game on desktop. It does feature the basics necessary for play, like the spin button and a menu with extra features. However, the wins are not clearly displayed – tucked away in the right corner in smaller text, I didn’t see them at first and wasn’t sure how much I was winning.

I’d also like to have more betting options, as you’re limited to just three settings – 45, 90 or 225 credits. You can’t reduce the number of paylines to play in Golden Wolves, so it would be nice to be able to do more with your credit balance to vary the gameplay.

I suspect Golden Wolves keeps the design simple so serious players can focus on the game. However, it’s always nice to see those small design touches that add to the overall experience.

The Scatter Symbol will also appear during the free spins round, which can increase your total number of spins awarded and re-trigger the round.

Unlike some slots where the bonus round takes place on a separate reel, the Free Spins in Golden Wolves are part of the regular game. However, there is a little more attention paid to the animation and theme during the Free Spins, giving it that special “bonus” feel.
